Exploring University Engagement Through An International Lens: The Case Of Extensión Universitaria In Panama

Abstract

University engagement, along with teaching and research, are integral components of the educational mission of higher education institutions. These three missions must be present in the policies and strategies of uni- versities, and mutually support and complement each other. This chapter discusses university engagement from an international perspective, specifi- cally the case of Panama. The case will explore different factors within an international context that impact the conceptualization and development of university engagement, referred to in Latin America as extension universitaria.
